One of the most important priorities of a human is having fun and feeling happiness because it can help them enjoy their lives. These emotions are made from a neurotransmitter called Dopamine. This chemical in our bodies helps us feel joy and happiness. Ways we naturally increase dopamine is by listening to music, maintaining a healthy diet, and having a good amount of sleep, which is an average of 7 to 9 hours. This is because it gives a sense of liberation. Activities such as savoring a glass of wine or going out with friends are only a few examples of what we do to have fun and produce dopamine. On the other hand, safety is the state of being safe and protected from danger or harm. Some parents view the safety of their children to be the most essential, sometimes even building a wall around the kid so they can not achieve freedom. The prioritization of fun or safety depends on who is asked the question. However, there are certain reasoning behind both sides. Safety is saving a person from damage, and is a need for protection. However, fun is also a need that could affect someone’s health and their lives. Through this essay, I will explain why people should prioritize having fun more than an individual’s safety.
The effects of safety are also very essential for people too. Safety is something that everyone has to always have to possess in times of danger, since it is what helps people avoid their life being threatened in any situation. Safety is common sense, and something that a preferable life demands. For instance, workplace safety is the safety of employees and employers. If people who work in the company are facing health issues because of their lack of safety, the company will have absent employee slots that are caused by the employees’ health issues, which might cease the production of the organization. On the contrary, if safety in the workplace is justified, there will be lower injury costs, and increase in productivity. Safety can be very beneficial in daily life too. Since daily activities may be risky for a healthy life, such as playing sports, safety will be needed to improve quality of life. In order for a beneficial life, people have to use safety, and sometimes take risks that may make them gain certain benefits.
By prioritizing safety more than freedom and fun, parents can shield children from taking risks, or trying new things. However, these parents are oblivious of the fact that, while they are blocking children from new activities, they are potentially severing a child’s chance to develop. A child’s best way to learn effectively is by having fun and feeling a positive emotion while learning. People learn by making mistakes. However, if parents prevent their children from actually making these mistakes, it will not help children further develop, nor would they consider the consequences of their actions. If people prioritize safety, it will not be possible to reach this opportunity in learning. This is only in the aspect of learning. A person’s convenient life is another factor in a person’s life which is affected negatively by prioritizing safety. Again, safety is the state of being safe and protected from danger or harm. If parents shield their children, they will cast away the possible opportunities children will have for growth. Since they did not experience freedom and the consequences following it, they would not be prone to this concept that could affect them largely in society later on. According to psychology today, the role of a parent is to teach their children social skills, and maintain their mental health. In order to achieve this goal, parents have to prioritize child development, and their mental happiness, by giving them the experience of having fun.
Everyone’s definition of fun is achieved by what actions they take and their feelings about what they have done. When playing, people learn social skills such as sharing, concentrating, or simply not getting distracted by others. Possessing social skills can assist people to live life with satisfaction because of bonds not only with your family, but relationships you made with others using social skills. Although safety might seem like the most trustable choice to make when aiming for a convenient and healthy future, personal satisfaction of having fun actually is a better way to carve out a life that is successful.
Prioritizing safety can cause stress for people. If people are only concerned about maintaining their own health and physical state, they would go through stress of having to worry about how to accomplish something only in a safe way. Chronic worrying can affect a person’s sleep, lifestyle habits, relationships, job performance, and is also the cause of stress, which is a major problem. Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension in the body. There are various causes of stress, such as an unhealthy lifestyle, not having enough personal time, having conflicts, inability to accept things the way they are, failure to relax, major life changes, and an individual’s burden. If people are obsessed with keeping their own bodies safe, and not taking any risks, it would be too much for them to handle. For instance, if a person is engrossed in safety might buy a seat in Emirates, one of the safest airlines in the world, but also one of the most expensive airlines in the world too. The mere process of ticketing the expensive airline might accumulate financial burden and stress. Stress can be the cause of millions of ill people. Annually, an average of 120,000 people die from work-related stress, and according to The American Institute Of Stress, about 33 percent of people report feeling extreme stress, 77 percent of people experience stress that affects their physical health, 73 percent of people have stress that impacts their mental health, and 48 percent of people have trouble sleeping because of stress. Since prioritizing safety can actually damage a person both physically and mentally, by considering safety important, people are damaging their own health.
Another reason prioritization of fun is more important than prioritizing safety is because safety can ruin the decision-making skills of people. If a person’s decision making is only considered to the fact of what the risks are, it will counter the amounts of advantages and benefits from certain choices they make, and the actions they choose to take. For example, many people view financial safety as a priority of life. They are determined not to lose money, and not determined to earn more money, which could lead to a bigger financial gain. Like this, people make biased decisions based on safety. While there may be more beneficial scenarios and solutions, people choose safety over gain. In later society, if people are not capable of taking risks, they will not be able to make beneficial choices for themselves. True, safety can be a way to save peoples’ lives, but it will ruin it too. By having fun, people can be free, and do what they want to pursue in life, while learning how to make wise choices. Since decision making is an important part of a convenient life, it is appropriate that people value fun more than someone’s safety.
Also, there is a severe consequence that people will face if they rely too much on safety and not on fun. Focusing on safety will cause people to set limitations to their actions. Because of this strong belief that safety is always the first priority, people are making restrictions against themselves. An example of this is the Covid-19 lockdown. When this pandemic hit, many countries implemented quarantine and social distancing restrictions. They did this because of one reason, safety for citizens in the community. Due to this decision, the education of students has been more delicate, and weaker, since all learning has been forced into technology. Also, the lockdown has led to a decrease of 30% in investment of clean transition, has led more than 1.6 billion children out of schools, and because of the Covid-19 lockdown, it is estimated that more than 251 million people would be pushed into poverty by the year of 2030. The Covid 19 lockdown has proved that, because of the prioritization of safety, people’s rights were violated, to freedom, education, adequate housing, food and safe water, and to health.
In the current world, some people believe that safety should be more important and prioritized than fun, and some people prefer the opposite. If safety is prioritized over fun, people would get more stress from the required work to sustain their personal beliefs about safety, and maintain a healthy and flawless life. Also, because of prioritization of safety, people’s actions will get restricted, and ruin the decision-making skills of people too. On the other hand, if we selectively adhere to fun, people would be able to learn social skills, and develop by playing and having fun with others. All around the world, it is debatable whether fun should be prioritized over safety or vice versa. Ergo, it is right that everyone has two pathways between fun and safety. However, fun would be more necessary for a healthier lifestyle for an individual.
